The next step in the development of probiotic products: Trillions of high activity!
In 2021, with the normalization of the pandemic and the awakening of consumer health awareness, more and more consumers began to choose probiotic products. At the same time, many consumers felt that the effects of probiotics were not obvious after taking them, so they started to increase their intake of probiotics. To meet consumer demand, the market began to gradually launch high-activity probiotic products.High activityProbiotic end products with high activity as a selling point have ushered in a period of rapid growth.
In recent years, well-known foreign brands such as Nestlé, Life Space, and Renew Life have continuously launched high-activity probiotic products, with the number of live bacteria exceeding the trillion mark, and the trend of increasing live bacteria numbers is becoming more pronounced, rising from 100 billion, 120 billion, 150 billion to even 200 billion and beyond. In the domestic market, mainstream products mainly have a live bacteria count of 20 billion, and some manufacturers falsely claim high live bacteria counts by adding probiotics during production. The probiotic market environment still needs to be regulated.

Through in-depth investigation, we found that the main reasons for the significant differences between domestic and foreign markets are twofold:
First: European and American countries are at the forefront of this niche field, having conducted systematic special research on high-activity probiotics earlier, leading the development direction of the entire probiotic market, while the domestic market started relatively late, resulting in a delayed market perception.
Many foreign universities and research institutions have conducted a series of experiments comparing high-dose and low-dose probiotics, showing that high-activity, multi-strain probiotics have better colonization effects in the human body than low live bacteria counts and single strains. These comprehensive theoretical bases are the prerequisites for the market's promotion of high live bacteria.
Second: The industrialization technology of high-activity probiotics in China is not mature enough, and the high costs of imported products create obstacles for the launch of high live bacteria count end products.
It is well known that the industrialization technology of probiotics is key to the development and application of probiotic products. Research and development only provide a theoretical basis, but in the actual production process of probiotics, various factors such as insufficient professionalism of R&D and production personnel, low production efficiency, outdated preparation technology and equipment, and substandard production environments can easily lead to non-compliance with live bacteria counts in the bacterial powder, uncontrollable batch stability, and unguaranteed quality, ultimately resulting in products that cannot be used for industrial manufacturing.
With the advancement of the "Made in China 2025" strategy and the national push for industrial modernization, some domestic probiotic raw material production companies are gradually launching large-scale intelligent manufacturing strategies based on process optimization, tackling breakthroughs in key core production technologies, and systematically optimizing the probiotic production process around issues such as how to improve "high density, high activity, and high stability" during fermentation, including aspects like medium selection, improvement of production conditions, optimization of post-processing technology, in-depth screening of protectants, and upgrading of freeze-drying processes. Based on modern intelligent control methods and control technologies, this will greatly enhance the stability of probiotic production processes, improve production efficiency, and demonstrate large-scale technology, thereby effectively improving the quality of probiotic raw materials and reducing raw material costs.
At the same time, at the 16th International Symposium on Probiotics and Health held this year, the "Top Ten Focuses on the Development of China's Probiotic Industry in 2021" was prominently released, with "High-activity Probiotic Preparation and Processing Production Equipment" listed among them. This indicates that the scientific and industrial communities in China have gradually recognized and accepted high-activity probiotic products, and the entire probiotic industry is beginning to strive for precise focus and concentrate efforts to solve the practical problems encountered in the development of the high-activity probiotic industry. Industry support can effectively promote the scale of the probiotic market and the vigorous development of the health industry.
As the probiotic market matures and consumer awareness increases, the development of the probiotic industry will become more standardized, and high-quality trillion-level probiotic end products will irreversibly replace low live bacteria count end products, disrupting the existing landscape of probiotic brand products.
